Barry Friedman Argues Andre v. Clayton at Eleventh Circuit

Last week, Policing Project founder and faculty director Barry Friedman delivered oral argument in our case André v. Clayton County to a panel of judges at the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta, Georgia.

The case, filed on behalf of entertainers Eric André and Clayton English, alleges that Clayton County police have routinely violated the rights of Black passengers at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport through a program of racial profiling and coercive stops in the airport’s jet bridges.

In September 2023, the district court dismissed the case. Last week, Friedman argued that the appeals court should reinstate the case and that Clayton County police officers violated the constitutional rights of André and English – and hundreds of other travelers – under the Fourth and Fourteenth Amendments.
